In 2019, we had the opportunity to take part in a project that went far beyond the boundaries of design. “Youth Sphere” in Shumen became a symbol of how youthful energy, volunteer spirit, and professional design can come together to transform urban space — and life within it..
The project was awarded the “Inspiring Practice” prize during the national volunteer awards #HEROES, organized by TimeHeroesFor us, this recognition was more than just an award — it was proof that good can be beautiful, and that design can hold deep social value.
What is “Youth Sphere”?
“Youth Sphere” is a geodesic dome with a 9-meter diameter, built in the park in front of the Bezisten building in Shumen. The space is used for:
- concerts
- literary readings
- creative gatherings and workshops
Around the dome, we created zones with handmade pallet furniture, a street library and even an open-air piano — all designed to be accessible, open, and inspiring.
Our Role in the Project
We got involved with full dedication — from designing and planningto the actual construction of the dome and the surrounding spaces. We contributed not just our professional expertise, but also our personal energy, because we believe that that design can — and should — serve the community.
The entire project was brought to life with the help of over 50 volunteers, coordinated by the Shumen Municipal Youth Council. Financial support came from The Coca Cola Foundation and BG BeActive, but the true driving force were the people who believed in its purpose.
An Award with Deep Meaning
The award for “Inspiring Practice” we received during an official ceremony at Sofia Live Club, part of the annual TimeHeroes Awards. For us, this recognition carries a powerful message — change begins with us, with every project we put our heart into.
